Upgrade time and our client, a PR company based in Coventry, was considering the different options available to them. Greg Markwardt our Technical Liaison Manager had discussed cloud alternatives to having an on premise physical server and this had piqued the interest of our client.
After looking closely at the advantages and disadvantages of moving to the cloud the client decided on a hosted server and hosted email solution.
The admin staff also struggled to remain on top of their emails and a huge amount of their time was wasted trying to find information whilst doing their own manual email archiving.
We had to ensure that whichever solution we implemented must be robust enough to cater for their 25 user base and flexible enough to cope with any planned growth as they were looking to open regional offices in Edinburgh and London.
We were able to provide a hosted server within our secure data centre plus 24/7 systems monitoring and management for a low monthly fee. The client also required support for their servers and users as although the nature of their infrastructure had changed, their day to day support needs remained the same.
For their emails we implemented Office 365 by Microsoft which comes with built in anti-spam and anti-virus protection. The client also liked the idea of Lync for communicating with their international clients and SharePoint as an intranet.
“The migration to the cloud was fairly straightforward” says Greg Markwardt, Technical Liaison Manager. “Moving completely to the cloud is not suitable for every businesses especially those with more complex IT environments – a hybrid solution (cloud and on premise) may be more suitable. This client however was perfect for Cloud Technology. As the work was carried out during the weekend, come Monday morning, their team could use their systems as before albeit with minor teething problems which we were able to iron out within a few days”.
