I was abroad when it was announced that we had to “work from home”. I remember heading for the drinks cabinet to pour myself a whiskey to calm the nerves. Work from home? As an IT Company, we regularly carry out some of our work onsite. What do we do if there was a server failure or network outage? Yes, you could do some work remotely but the nitty-gritty will most often require onsite troubleshooting! I worried too about the fact that we had to support users at home – would their home networks be robust enough to allow us to fix their IT issues effectively because if not, this could be viewed as a failing by some despite it being out of our control. We had trialled work from home before, one or two days here and there as part of our disaster recovery preparations but no longer. To make things worse there was no indication of how long the work from home period would be for. To say I was a nervous wreck the first few weeks would be an understatement.
Well, we ended up working from home for five months and thanks to the sheer brilliance of the Supreme Team, it has pretty much been business as usual. COVID forced us to review the way we work, the changes we have made that allowed us to support our users successfully from home, has made us a more effective team. Even the server and network outage that I fretted over was a doddle – we resolved three such issues effortlessly using old fashioned ingenuity and some smart tech tools!
Our service levels have never been better. Our engineers completely blew away their helpdesk stats, sales and marketing have worked hard to come up with new ways of attracting customers, and our project management team have executed projects exceedingly well despite obvious limitations. Account management received glowing feedback from customers during account reviews carried out over Zoom, many for our procurement team, who pulled a blinder to ensure customer orders were fulfilled in a timely fashion.
The team at Supreme are superstars – every single one of them. I tell them often that without them there simply is no Supreme Systems. They are diligent, hardworking, down to earth, so funny and a complete joy to work with. Frankly, they make my job as a manager easy. I wish all managers had a team like the Supreme Team. They are simply the best.
So, a big thank you to Team Supreme. I am so glad that we are back in the office again. I have missed the office banter. Aidan complaining about the office being too cold because Tom has turned down the thermostat (again), Andrew’s top drawer, tuck shop (must be seen to be believed), Ellen trying to convince the tech guys to be in her videos, Julian’s booming telephone voice, H and Deb bickering like siblings, Jordan passing on IT nous to our apprentices, James and Thomas’s IT wizardry in build room, Greg’s dulcet telephone voice or Abbie telling vendors how disappointed she was that they failed to meet her exacting standards. I have even missed having pizza for Lunch on Supreme – for the 100th time!
I am forever in awe of you. Continue to shine brightly, you are true gems!
