When we decided to start sending monthly newsletters to our client base we sent out an email to our clients to ask them about what sort of topics they would like to see addressed within the newsletter. One of the first emails we received back was this one:
“Hi Angie, Yes I would love your input on how to stop unwanted e-mails and spam without costing a fortune. This is a high priority subject to me as not only me but all my staff are wasting precious daily time on reading and deleting rubbish. Help help help ! ! !”
The Challenge
This email was sent by the Managing Director of an engineering client of ours who had reached almost breaking point because of spam. On a daily basis he and his team received well over 100 spam messages to their inboxes and every morning before they did anything they spent 15 minutes on average (longer on Mondays as the amount of spam tripled over the weekend) filtering the spam messages from legitimate emails. His frustration was understanding when you calculate how much time was lost on a weekly basis due to the tedious task of reading and deleting spam messages and the inevitable effects on staff productivity.
This was not the first time we had received this particular SOS from our client and each time our answer was the same – setup protection at the internet gateway (where all the emails come through before hitting their inboxes). The Solution
The email seemed to do the trick as the client gave us the go ahead to implement Mail Controller, the internet gateway protection by Opal. Within 48hrs as promised the client had begun experiencing a huge difference in the amount of spam messages they were receiving.
“For this client the difference was amazing”, says Client Services Manager Angela Hart. “They went from dealing with up to 500 spam messages daily to between 0 – 5 messages on a bad day. We sat down and did the maths and we worked out that the total time lost sorting through the spam messages was 867hrs per year – this equated to a whopping £8,600 lost in unproductive time! The £300 spent stopping the spam was just a fraction of what it would have cost them if the problem had not been resolved.”
